Through a month-long spring festival, the Cariboo Festival promotes educational and artistic growth in music – voice, piano and a variety of instruments; and in speech arts and creative writing. We serve hundreds of participants from schools and the community through individual classes, championship playoffs, and the Honours concert. Participants receive instruction by highly qualified adjudicators from around British Columbia and Alberta, and eligible entrants are recommended to proceed to the annual provincial festival held in a different British Columbia community every year. http://cariboofestival.ca/</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Williams Lake Spinners, Weavers and Fibre Artists Guild is a gathering of creative and positive people who enjoy working with animal and plant fibres, transforming them into beautiful and useful items. We practice the ancient skills of carding, spinning, dyeing, weaving, knitting, crocheting and felting resulting in wearable articles, household items, and purely artistic objects. We meet every Wednesday from 10am to 1:30pm and every Saturday from 10am to noon in the Guild Room at the CCACS building on Fourth Ave(old firehall). Throughout the year we have special events, such as our November sale of our hand-crafted items, and our annual Spin In, held on the first Saturday of May. This is a daylong gathering of spinners from all over BC and commercial vendors of spinning and weaving supplies. This is a cheerful and inspiring occasion. If you are curious about the fibre arts, are practicing them on your own or would like to learn about them, consider joining the Guild. We welcome new members, and are only too happy to teach anyone wishing to learn our ancient arts. Visit our Facebook page.</image:caption>

<image:caption>At the end of Oliver Street stands the oldest public building still in use within the city, and possibly the most historic: the BC Rail Station. There are only two remaining first generation Pacific Great Eastern Railway stations (PGE) – one in Quesnel and the older station in Williams Lake. The Gallery still sees a fantastic volume of tourists and local craftspeople who come through the doors to visit, as well as to exhibit. Each month the Gallery exhibits a variety of contemporary works in many mediums by local, regional, and touring artists. The Society also operates a gift shop that features the work of local artists and crafts people. Upstairs, there is room for small workshops such as children’s art classes offered each summer. Guided educational tours are also offered to local school children and groups. The Gallery’s success and growth over the years has allowed for a full time Gallery Manager, a part time Exhibition Coordinator, and a casual Education Coordinator. Volunteers, however, are still essential to all aspects of the organization. The Gallery is funded through revenue generated by the gift shop, memberships, donations, fundraising projects, the City of Williams Lake Fee for Service, and Community Arts Council Grants. <image:caption>The Cariboo-Chilcotin Youth Fiddle Society is a performance group of fiddlers, pianists, guitar players, and the occasional drummer. The CCYFS has grown over the years to its current membership of 35 musicians. These young musicians range in age from 5 to 19, and are guided by their fearless leader, Ingrid Johnston. The success of the group has led to the addition of several new instructors. Every two years, workshops and classes culminate in a large public performance. UPCOMING: On May 13 and 14, 2017 the CCYFS is performing “The Life of a Fiddle” at the Gibraltar Room. Annual registration is accepted starting in August each year, with our season running from September to May. We welcome new members each fall, and believe our group is a wonderful example of the value of creative collaboration between young and old, beginner and advanced players, and traditional and contemporary music.
