One doesn’t turn 50 everyday.

A celebration for a Golden Anniversary is no small thing!

Here at CACWL, our goal is to please… We’d like to invite you to our 50th Anniversary celebration featuring local Horsflinian talents, Pharis and Jason Romero. Yes, on Saturday, November 30th, these two award winning musicians will thrill you with a workshop AND a concert. That’s right.

In partnership with Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society and Pinnacle Renewable Energy, CACWL presents a great arts immersion experience with a goal to fundraise for our YOUTH ARTS INITIATIVES. These are the awesome youth programs we run, including Art in the Park, Artists in the Schools, Puddle Poetry Project and LCS Graduate Arts Awards, to name a few. Concert profits go toward all these great things.

Now, I’m sure you have so many burning questions for these Juno Award winners, and most likely they are about Banjos. That’s what I thought. It’s why we are so excited that Pharis and Jason will be offering a workshop Saturday afternoon titled, “Banjos, Early Country Music and Vocal Harmonies.” There will be lots to learn from these artisan instrument makers, so please join us at the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society between 12:30 and 3:30 pm for the workshop, supported by the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society. Tickets are only $10 (at the Open Book in Williams Lake)!

For the workshop, Pharis and Jason will chat about banjos, what they do with their banjo building company, and demonstrate some musical banjo history and styles. Questions are very welcome! We'll then learn some old country songs - Carter Family and the like - and the parts & harmonies that go with them. There'll be a lot of singing, a lot of learning of great old songs, and a lot of fun. Song lyrics and chords will be provided; no instruments needed but if you want to bring them please do. Pharis and Jason will have a pile of banjos and guitars with them. If you are keen to keep track of Romero Banjos, check them out on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/B3NKBciBVIF/

Later that evening, you can cozy in to the Sanctuary at St. Andrews United Church (1000 Huckvale Place). Presented by Pinnacle Renewable Energy, this concert is a wonderful opportunity to support local arts and culture! The doors will open at 7 pm, and the concert begins at 7:30 pm. Not only will you be treated to classic tunes from Pharis and Jason’s repertoire, they have lots of new material to play. We’ll have a concession available during intermission, run by the Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake.
